WEILL. Symphonies Nos. I and 2. Lady in the Dark.
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra / Mann Alsop
Naxos Track 7
An intriguing musical sideglance at Kurt Weill's output. The First Symphony, from 1921, was written at the time when Weill was studying with Busoni. The Second, from 1934, is a much stronger work: it was premiered by Bruno Walter in Amsterdam and is well worth hearing. Mann Alsop and her doughty Bournemouth ensemble play with tremendous spirit, thrillingly recorded.

The Gramophone Archive has been created using a process called Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Optical Character Recognition allows a computer to 'read' scanned versions of original magazine pages. The text will not always be read completely accurately. If you notice a problem with an article please use the report an error functionality so we may fix it by hand.
