The recent review of Schreker's Die Gezeichneten (June, page 112) reminded me of one of my late father's reminiscences of appearing as an extra (torch-bearer, I believe) in early Berlin performances of this opera.
Now that the great Efrem Kurtz is dead [see Obituary on page 12— Ed], will EM! have the decency to issue a CD of his and the Philharmonia's flawless performance of Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony. My copy of ALP 1322 (2/56), bought second-hand at Henry Stave's over 30 years ago, is wearing thin.
In last month's issue the interview with the Palladian Ensemble ("Passing notes", page 21) was accidentally uncredited; its author was Lindsay Kemp.
