break that it has so long deserved, namely, a place alongside other great music of our day.
The real Jazz is neither cheap, shallow nor flashy. The Jazz as played by true Jazz musicians has a living, profound quality. It is the outlet of a great people. A people who have truly learned to laugh at their troubics. It expresses their sorrows and their joys. I do not believe that any man, whether he likes the music or not, has the right to say whether it has or has not the qualities that will endure the years. That is something that only the years themselves can testify.
So please continue your good work in giving a little space—space that is very valuable to you at the present time—to intelligent criticism of Jazz records. You are helping an art form that, whatever it is, is at least sincere.

The Gramophone Archive has been created using a process called Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Optical Character Recognition allows a computer to 'read' scanned versions of original magazine pages. The text will not always be read completely accurately. If you notice a problem with an article please use the report an error functionality so we may fix it by hand.
