Letter | Plus ca diange?

Before readers rush to the wrong conclusion after reading your March editorial and that reviews of classical music are to be submerged by those of 'cross-over', pop, rap, hip-hop, jazz, fusion or whatever, they should pause and recall at least two thoughts.

Letter | Stick to what you do best

I read with alarm the final paragraph of your editorial in the March issue. Unlike the controller of BBC Radio 3, who admits to not knowing what classical music is, you have given ample evidence since becoming editor of Gramophone that you do indeed know what it is. There is proof on this in...

Letter | Ferrier not the queen of Mahler's Lied

I agree with your choice of recordings for Mahler's Lied von der Erde in February's 'Recommended Recordings' (page 128).

Letter | Martha M631 was still singing .at 89

Your obituary in the March issue (page 23) records that Martha Mod] appeared as recently as 1999 in The Queen of Spades. In fact the length of her stage career was even more impressive than that.

Letter | Why no ballet?

I applaud strongly your growing coverage of DVD; but why are you ignoring the numerous (often superlative) ballets issued in this medium? I cannot be your only reader puzzled by this.

Letter | A fan writes_

Thanks to Bryce Morrison in the February issue for his frank and perceptive comments on Czech pianist Ivan Moravec (see review on page 67).

The Gramophone Archive has been created using a process called Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Optical Character Recognition allows a computer to 'read' scanned versions of original magazine pages. The text will not always be read completely accurately. If you notice a problem with an article please use the report an error functionality so we may fix it by hand.

Report an error

Please ensure that the paragraph below contains the error you wish to report. If possible you can highlight the part of the text where the error occurs using your mouse (click the start at the error and drag to the end).
