THE celebrated German bass, Josef Greindi, has died at the age of 80. A leading performer at Salzburg and Bayreuth, Greindl excelled in the evil roles in Wagner's operas, but was equally acclaimed as King Mark in Tristan und Isolde and Pogner in Die Meistersinger. He made his debut in 1936, and performed throughout Germany and
July 1993 Daniel Jones has died aged 80. A conservative, tonal composer, he wrote 12 symphonies, eight string quartets and two operas. He also ediited a collection of poetry by his friend Dylan Thomas.
