Britten's "Gloriana"
I feel that it is certainly time for a recording of Britten's Gloriana. After some twenty-two years since composition, and taking into consideration the fact that every other single opera by the composer has been recorded, perhaps there is some explanation as to why this surely most colourful, and I believe most well written, of Britten's operas has been neglected for so long. I recall last year reading in your pages of an intended recording with Janet Baker as Elizabeth. Has this been postponed or are we to expect a recording before too long?

The Gramophone Archive has been created using a process called Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Optical Character Recognition allows a computer to 'read' scanned versions of original magazine pages. The text will not always be read completely accurately. If you notice a problem with an article please use the report an error functionality so we may fix it by hand.
