MiklOs Rdzsa
I was moved by L. Jepson's letter on MiklOs ROzsa (December, page 9). It is most heartening to see Dr R6zsa's name mentioned so often of recent time in Gramophone and enthusiasts of his music might be interested to know that I travelled out to Los Angeles at the kind invitation of Dr R6zsa's family, for an afternoon of musical memories held on September 3rd at the Bel Air Hotel. Such luminaries of film music as David Raksin, Elmer Bernstein and Jerry Goldsmith all spoke warmly of ROzsa's contribution to the art of film music composition and all spoke of his humility. Live music was played, representing both facets of Dr R6zsa's 'double life' and there was an appearance by the distinguished pianist Leonard
Pennario, a life-long advocate of Dr ROzsa's music.
As the late, and much lamented, Christopher Palmer might have said about my afternoon in Los Angeles, this was indeed an "apotheosis".
