MORE FOR CHILDREN. Edward Ardizzone. Little Tim and the Brave Sea Captain: Tim to the Rescue: Tim and Charlotte: Tim in Danger. Told by David Davis. Delysé iJ DEL127-130 (four 7 in., Is. plus is. P.T. each).
Alison Uttley's animal stories have long been established securely among the classics of twentieth-century children's literature. As in the predecessors in this series they are told by David Davis, familiarly known to millions of children simply as David because of his broadcasts, and there is no need to say more except that the stories include some vintage specimens and that the recording is first rate, with every word as clear as a bell.
Edward Ardizzone is primarily an artist (he was awarded the Kate Greenaway medal in 1956). He wrote these tales about Tim for his own children and their quality is best illustrated by the fact that now in his mid-sixties Mr. Ardizzone is reading them to his grandchildren. They, too, are first class in their different way and David is again the perfect narrator. If I were limited to one record in each series I should be inclined to get Tim in Danger for boys and Sam Pig in Love for girls.
