HONOURS
Our congratulations to Sir John Barbirolli who was made a Companion of Honour by The Queen in Her Majesty's Birthday Honours. Also to James Robertson, created CBE and remembered for some splendid performances at Sadler's Wells and now Director of the London Opera Centre; also to Erie Ball, the composer, conductor and adjudicator, and to Eric Robinson, to whom music on television owes so much, particularly in the early days of the service, both of whom become OBE, and to Sheila Mossmann, whose Orpington Junior Singers were among the huge cast assembled for Leonard Bernstein's recording of Mahler's 8th Symphony, who becomes an MBE. Two other recording artists in the list, whom we congratulate for reasons other than musical, were Anna Neagle (DBE) and Arthur Askey (OBE).
Congratulations also to Geraint Evans, the Welsh-born baritone, who received a knighthood in a supplementary honours list in commemoration of the investiture of the Prince of Wales.
